Introduction

   

COUNSELING SPECIALTY:

The majority of my work is in the area of individual and couple counseling. Although there are always exceptions and each situation is unique, I find the following to be frequent themes that lead people to seek my assistance.

In the area of Individual Therapy or Counseling, these are:

  • Changes in emotional or physical health, life stage, occupation, grief and loss
  • Relationship struggles, separation and divorce adjustment
  • Personal growth or self-esteem development, stress, issues from one’s childhood
  • Personal and relationship issues for adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (with or without Hyperactivity)

In the area of Couple and Family Counseling, these are:

  • Communication, problem solving, trust and intimacy, relationship enrichment
  • Infidelity and its aftermath
  • Pre-marital counseling (often in second marriages)
  • Family relations with parents, in-laws and adult children
  • Transitions of separation or step parenting
  • Challenges from change in occupational status, or physical or mental health
  • Relationship adjustment with conditions such as Attention Deficit Disorder (with or without Hyperactivity)

In the area of Problematic Use of Gambling, Drugs, Alcohol, Sexual Behaviour, or the Internet, I work with:

  • Problem assessment and individual counseling or referral to a structured program if necessary
  • Individual, couple or family counseling as part of an aftercare or follow up plan
  • Counseling with adults raised in substance abusing or gambling homes

In the area of Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, these are:

  • Individual and couple counseling as indicated above
  • Personal and relationship issues arising from adjusting to this diagnosis
  • Joint work with a career and life skills coach with a specialty in this area

CLIENT WORKSHOP SPECIALTY

I offer a day long Life Skills Workshop for friends and family members of those struggling with, or recovering from problems with drugs, alcohol, gambling or the Internet (sexual or not). The next scheduled date is Sunday March 25, 2012. (Click for flyer on workshop)

The workshop is focused on practical skills and includes an optional individual follow up session. The workshop is kept small in order to address a variety of individual goals and learning styles. Read More
